Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai is one of the foremost social science institutes in India that offers several social science masters and research programs in various fields including social work, health, education, governance. It is worth to note that the requirements differ from one department to the other – For the MA in Development Studies and the MA Women Studies, the candidate should be a graduate from any stream and must have obtained 50% or above in their final examination. For the MA Education, the candidate should be a graduate in B.Ed with 50% or above.
TISS Mumbai has approximately 50 postgraduate and research programs in its schools of social work, health, education, governance media. For admission to 2 years masters’ degree courses, candidates are required to register and take the TISSNET common admission test, Personal Interview & Group Discussion. For the admission process of M.Phil and Ph.D programs, students should have minimum 55% marks in their post graduation. Most of the programs offered admit students through TISS National Entrance Test TISSNET while some have specific tests.
Process for filling up of Admission Form online Read the instructions carefully before filling up the form:
1. The identity proof in the form of Aadhaar card, PAN card or passport to prove identity and age etc.
2. Any other educational certificate that the examinee may wish to produce to show that he/she has completed his/her secondary school education.
3. High school transcript containing information of class 12 with subjects taken and marks scored.
4. Academic certificates of any previous degree if one is applying for a postgraduate program.
5. Year-wise Mark sheets / grade cards for education pursued as well as subjects taken along with marks scored.
6. For specific courses, standardized test scores like the GRE or GMAT if needed for the degree program you will be applying for.
1. Eligibility – For getting admission in UG courses the candidate must have passed 12th class While for PG courses a pass in bachelor ‘s degree with minimum percentage criteria is required.
2. First and foremost, log on to the TISS website, go through the admission procedures and complete the online application for the specific course of your choice before the stipulated time. Upload documents.
3. Application fee – The candidates also pay the application fee at the time of the form filling for the examination. They said that the fees differ depending on the category of the vehicle.
4. Sit for TISSNET – This exam is conducted for admission at the institute. It has 100 questions in three sectors, English, Maths and General Knowledge.
5. PI round : Depending on the marks obtained in TISSNET exam, candidates are shortlisted for the personal Interview round held at various centers.
6. End check result – The final merit list is determined with the candidate’s performance in PI and TISSNET Exam . It is a counseling-based process where students are provided with their respective seats.

7. Orientation for the joining of the new first semester classes and the allocation of disciplines.

3. Sit for the test known as TISS National Entrance Test (TISSNET) conducted in January. Qualifying cut-off marks apply.
4. Candidates are shortlisted and invited to appear for an interview at the TISS Mumbai Campus /Interview personal interaction. Research proposal needed.
5. The final merit list is thus prepared out of the TISSNET score, the group interview, and the quality of the research proposal.
6. In the case of being admitted, the student must pay the required fees to validate their admission. The documents of the students shall be submitted, and they should also join the PhD program in an orderly manner as planned.
7. Finish course works, create a proposal under the supervision of guide, conduct researches, write thesis and defend it for obtaining the degree of a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.).

5. Receive selection decision. For selected candidates, accept the offer and go through remaining admission procedures.
6. Pay registration fees, submit research proposal for registration. Start working in accordance with the outlined instructions and directions provided by the supervisor.
1. Candidates should have a master’s degree in the concerned subject with minimum 55% marks or its equivalent grade.
2. The shortlisted candidates then have to sit for a written entrance examination, which is an aptitude-test in the form of multiple choice questions that covers research.
3. Depending on the scores achieved in the entrance exam, students are selected for the interview for the depth of the concept and research abilities.
4. Final selection evaluates the performance of the candidate in written test, interview and academic results with written test accounting for 50%, interview 30% and the result from the school 20%.
5. The category wise reservation is done as per the rules of Government of India which are followed for the seats provided to the different categories.
6. The selected students are required to provide a research proposal at the time of joining the University as per the guidelines and then the research proposal is carried out under the designated research supervisors.
