University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is a private university situated in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya and is spread over of area of 200 acres It contains various departments in different fields such as engineering and technology, science, management, law and humanities. Admissions in the computer science engineering department are done according to the marks obtained in JEE main without any upper age limit. The branch of Electronics and Communication Engineering also accept scores of JEE Main, however, the age limit is up to 22 years. Admission to ME/M.Tech programme in civil engineering department is through MEET conducted by the university and age limit of 25 years. The biotechnology department offers admission through the national level exams such as JEE Main, NEET or MEET exam, the age limitation is not there.
USTM provide numerous undergraduate and postgraduate courses in its different fields of specialization. The streams offered by the university are engineering, sciences, humanities, commerce and law. Some of the most sought after courses include the BTech courses in computer science, electronics and mechanical engineering, civil engineering, BSc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, BA in English, Economics and Political Science, BCom, LLB and many others. The accepted national level entrance exams are JEE Main, NEET, CLAT, MET to be held for the admissions in the year 2024. It is a yearly program that opens its application in December 2023, and students have to apply online through the university portal. For the undergraduate courses admissions are given based on the entrance test and the candidate’s performance in the +2 exams. The university releases selected lists of candidates on its portal by June, 2024. The classes begin in August 2024 and to pursue the admission process before the deadline is necessary.
- MBA programs often need a four-year bachelor’s degree, entrance examination scores, experience of the candidate, and academic performance, etc.
- Application process in general involves filling forms and providing documents, written/computer based tests/interviews if selected for the process, and waiting for final admission off ering.
- There is a difference in the timeline but the usual enrolment starts in the second semester for the batch that wants to start next year.
- Entrance Test: They are required to write an entrance test of their choice administered by the Meghalaya Technical University (MTU), such as MAT, CAT, CMAT, etc as the case may be but then they are given an invitation for further tests.
- Academic Record: Performance in the bachelor’s degree as well as the other activities of the candidates is considered. Sometimes they have certain percentage cutoffs that need to be met before one can graduate, it is often 50% and above.
- Group Discussion & Personal Interview: Candidates getting qualified in the entrance test and having good performance in academics have to face group discussion and personal interview by the university. Excellence is seen in these plays of which perform an important role.
- Work Experience: Some urgency type of jobs may prefer candidates who have worked for 2 or more years after graduation or give them additional consideration.
- Diversity: Other factors that can be considered may include gender, students from different academic backgrounds etc, so as to meet the diversified class formation.
1. Before proceeding to apply for a course, it is recommended that one should first compare the program’s eligibility requirements with his/her own academic background. These are mostly a bachelor’s degree with percentage division.
2. Navigat to the admissions/academics of the university website to get the information. Search for the process and documents necessary for applying to MBA.
3. Application forms and the prospectus for the schools can be downloaded from the website. Carefully go through the information about the admission criteria and fees that have also been provided alongside details about the MBA program.
4. Make sure to write all the pertinent information in the Application Form including all the necessary fields. Kindly ensure you adhere to the checklist and upload the appropriate documents like copies of mark sheets, certificates, and photo etc.
5. If they are requesting for application fees, then pay it through the method that they have indicated on their website – online or offline. Retain a copy of your payment receipt.
6. Those who fulfilled the requirements must send the application form and the necessary documents before the stated date. This is usually either through the post/email/of person at the university.
7. Make sure to constantly visit the university website and your email/messages as this is where you will find the admission test dates, selection process and your admission status.
8. A candidate has to fill up other admission related formalities such as document verification, fees payment etc., if he/she is selected within the stipulated time period.
- The candidate should possess B.Sc degree from a recognized university in any relevant subject area but should have secured not less than 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/PWD category).
- This depends with performance in an entrance examination administered by the specific university for admitting students. This test is based on the subjects of the candidate’s education on the bachelor’s level in his or her subject.
- For a few M.Sc programs there may be additional tests like group discussion and/or personal interview in the admission procedure. Written test results, group discussion and interview are taken into account to formulate the final merit list.
- Duly for candidates belonging to the reserved categories of the society it is possible to request for lowering the minimum educational requirements as per the government regulation.
- In addition to the scores obtained in the qualifying examination and the entrance test, the university may consider priorities those students who have working/research experience, published papers, awards/medals, or other extra-curricular activities as permitted by the university administration.

They have to be informed about the requirements that would grant them eligibility, documents that they would need for the application, the form, deadlines and so on.
- I have read many universities’ procedure for admission and most of them require you to apply on line and fill a form that is available online, besides you are suppose to attach scanned copies of relevant documents among them being certificates. It may also be possible to have charges such as application fee.
- Such documents include; 10th and 12th standard result/sMarksheets, Undergraduate qualification certificates & marks statements, Any entrance test scores if any, Resume/ CV etc.
- Ensure that you have fulfilled the requirements the university requires in terms of academic qualifications, entrance examinations scores, experience among other factors.
