AIT or the Army Institute of Technology in Pune is a well-known institute that provides a range of programs in undergraduate, postgraduate, and research levels in engineering, sciences, and management. - The admissions are offered purely based on the mark secured in the Maharashtra common entrance test MH-CET conducted by the state government for this purpose.
- For admission, candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with pass in Physics and mathematics and any one of the subject as must be Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/Technical Vocational or its equivalent.
- In addition, there are merit lists drawn according to the obtained MH-CET score, each for an Open, Defence, Central or State government category.
- There is no other criterion to determine the candidates to be admitted for the particular course except the MH-CET score. The next level is a BE program at AIT Pune for those students who occupy the top ranks in each category.
- In the case of the open category, the minimum pass mark for admission is set high, mainly because of competition among the candidates. The competition is not very high in the sew in labor market for reserved categories, and therefore, cut off levels are comparatively lenient.
- For the candidate securing the same percentile in MH-CET test, the percentage of marks secured in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Biology in the qualifying examination (10+2) will be considered for tie-breaker.

- The last stage involves the final selection where candidates who have performed well in the GATE examination, personal interview, previous academic record, work experience if any, and other factors are considered for selection Those candidates who have obtained high GATE scores and have passed their academics in flying colors have higher possibilities of getting selected.
- Where candidates are sponsored from defense organizations their selections depends on records in service, departmental test qualified, interview and academics. There may be some service- seniority criteria also in some cases.
- Defence category candidates get admission as per the AICTE norms & guidelines, the college provides 50% of seats for these candidates. The remaining seats are available through Maharashtra state quota and all India common seat which is regulated by the GATE scores and other factors.
