The Directorate of Distance Education, Rabindra Bharati University Kolkata provides several undergraduate and postgraduate courses through distance mode. The School of Visual Arts provides under graduate and post graduate courses in Fine Arts Graphics-Print Making Applied Art Sculpture Painting and eligibility for these courses is 10+2 in any stream. Department of Dance, Drama, Music and Aesthetics imparts Bachelors in Kathak, Bharat Natyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Manipuri Dance forms, Drama, Vocal Music, Rabindra Sangeet, Instrumental Music (Sitar, Violin, Flute etc) after completing 10+2 in any stream. Department of Dance & Drama also provides Master’s Degree in Bharat Natyam, Kathak, Odissi, Tagore Literature but for this one has to complete graduation in respective stream from a recognized University. All courses have qualifying examinations in Class 12 or graduation as per the requirement of the course in addition to the RBU entrance test.
Some of the major streams that are taught through distance mode include Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Mass Communication & Video Production, Tourism Management, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Bengali, English, Sanskrit, Sociology, Education, Commerce and Management etc.
Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata has a Directorate of Distance Education which provides different undergraduate and postgraduate programs through distance learning mode. Students can apply for admission into these programs either online or through hard copy applications.
To apply online, the student has to access the official website at www.rbu.ac.in/ddoadmissions. On the admissions page, click on the online application and register by entering your details as required. Scan multiple documents to upload, or pay application fees for a form and submit it online.

Some of the Undergraduate programs offered through distance learning mode by Directorate of Distance Education Rabindra Bharati University Kolkata are as follows. The B.A. program is available in such courses as Bengali, English, history, philosophy, political science and sanskrit. The basic academic qualification for eligibility to these programs is the 10+2 examination in any discipline with not less than 45% marks in aggregate from any recognized board. The recognised qualifying examinations are Higher Secondary, CBSE, ICSE, West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education and other State Boards.
The Directorate is involved in the conduct of under graduate programs in faculties of Arts, Commerce, and Science. Some of the subjects taught in distance Bachelor of Arts program includes Bengali, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sanskrit. For the Bachelor of Commerce, the fields of specialization are Accounting and Finance or Management.
The Rabindra Bharati University is located at Kolkata and the Directorate of Distance Education of this university offers a number of PhD programs in different fields. The eligibility requirement is slightly different depending on the department. For PhD in English, candidates should have Master’s degree in English with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade. UGC NET, SET, SLET or any other test approved by the university have to be cleared for being considered for the post. In the Economics department, aspirants need to have a Master’s degree in Economics with minimum 55% marks aggregate. Official tests are UGC NET, SET or SLET There are also provisions for direct recruitment of candidates. Likewise, in subjects like History, Political Science, Philosophy, etc eligibility for PhD needs 55% marks in the master’s degree in the concerned subject along with UGC NET/SET or any other equivalent test.
The University provides both full-time and part-time PhD programs ranging from 3-5 years in faculties of Arts, Fine Arts, Visual Arts and Performing Arts faculties.
