Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur is located in Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal and it provides education in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in different branches of engineering. The departments offered are; Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical & Material Engineering, etc. The entrance requirements differ from the Civil one – a candidate must have a passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or pass JEE Main. For computer Science one needs to have an average of 60 % or above in Physics chemistry and Mathematics. The institute provides B.Tech and M.Tech courses in specializations like Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Key Dates for Admission in 2024 – JEE Main Examination conducted in January and April whereas JEE Advanced examination in the May, WBJEE examination also in the April. - Seat intake is done on the basis of the ranks obtained in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, WBJEE. For admission in any of the mentioned courses, the candidates must clear WBJEE examination organized by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board.
- For the admission in the 4 year B.Tech course, the candidate must have passed their 10 + 2 examinations with the compulsory subjects as Physics and Mathematics and one of the subjects of Chemistry/Biotechnology /Biology/Technical Vocational subjects.
- The admission of students to the above said institutions is done on the basis of merit rank obtained by the student in WBJEE examination, the WBJEE rank has separate cut off for each category such as General, SC, ST, OBC-A & OBC-B. To qualify for the interview, the candidates must have attained the set cut-off rank of the particular category.
- There are no entrances test or interviews and the students are selected purely on their WBJEE ranks – the higher the rank, the EARLIER the student gets an opportunity to select the Branch/Discipline of his/her choice.
- Candidates who are selected based on the ranks they obtained are required to go through the document verification and admission fee payment to secure the admission.
- There are total intakes that are spread across various B.Tech streams such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical etc. Total intakes of each streams are different.
1. There are several ways one can get the application form; either by visiting the official website of the IIEST Howrah admissions or visit the campus to get a form directly. It is normally avails for use by May each year.
2. Read the application form thoroughly and complete all fields – your personal information, your academic results, phone number, address and so on, and there should be no mistakes.
3. Encopy relevant academic documents with the application form as original documents are required to be submitted while applying. They must also submit 10th and 12th standard mark sheets/certificates.
4. Pay the application fees. The fees can be paid online or through demand draft only and NO CASH IS ACCEPTED. Check the latest application fees on the website or in the admission office of the campus of your interest.
5. Mark the application form and enclose the necessary documents along with the application fees before the stated dates. The submission can be done online or physically at the college or school admissions offices.
6. Always retain copies of application and its submission for purposes of record or even in the future. This can be an acknowledgment of payment made or a receipt.
7. Wait until the merit list is out, and then proceed to see whether you have been lucky enough. Candidates will be called for Document Verification and/or Counseling only for the selected ones.
8. To ensure that there is compliance with the set schedule for counseling. Pay for admission fees to cement your admission status.
9. Pay all the fees and submit all necessary documents and receive a confirmation of admission.
- The admissions are directly dependent on the rank obtained by the applicant in the exam called WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination). Of course, the candidates have to clear the WBJEE first to secure a chance in the entrance test.
- To get admission through WBJEE, the candidate must meet the requirements as per the WBUT admission criteria such as clearing class XII with certain minimum percentage of marks.
- The WBJEE examinations have merit lists for the general category and reserved categories that include SC, ST, OBC-A, and OBC-B. It is allocated according to one’s position on the respective merit list.
- To avail the particular quota of the college the candidate needs to have the certain WBJEE ranking and also conform to the norms set for a particular category like domiciliary requirement, income certificate etc., if applicable for that seat.
- According to the WBJEE rank, number of available seats and choices filled at the time of counseling, candidates will be offered admissions in the different B.Tech branches available. Computer Science, Electronics & Communication students and Electrical Engineering students are in most competative.
