Nit Jamshedpur offers courses at bachelors, masters and Doctorate levels in engineering, sciences, management and humanities. The offered BTech programmes includes Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical and Civil Engineering as well as Metallurgical and Materials Engineering among others. 1. Candidates applying for the B.Tech programs should have passed 10+2 examination of the respective state or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 75% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for Gen/OBC category and 65% for SC/ST category.
2. For MTech programs admission, candidates should possess BTech/BE degree in the concerned branch with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) are essential. It is mandatory for the candidates to possess the GATE qualification for the admission in MTech.
3. For MSc programs The candidate must have a BSc degree in the respective subject with minimum of 55% marks for general Category and 50% for SC/ST. Having any type of GATE qualification in line with the requirements enhances the chances of being selected.
4. For Ph.D. programs, the minimum eligibility criteria are a MTech/ME/MSc degree with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST). In the case of UGC-NET, the candidate must have qualified the GATE examination or UGC-NET examination for getting admission to the PhD program.
5. In order to pursue MBA program, the candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks. Candidates must also have completed their graduation and have scored well on CAT/MAT/XAT exams and above set cut offs.
6. For all programs, the candidate’s age should be less than 28 years for general cast and 33 years for SC/ST/OBC categories. A relaxation as per rules and regulations of government.

It was started in the year 1960 as the Regional Institute of Technology which was later upgraded as the National Institute of Technology in the year 2002. 2. The placement of students in various organizations has been commendable, as observed in 2022, over 600 companies have visited the campus for placement which includes, Microsoft, Amazon, Tata Steel, L&T, Cognizant, Infosys etc.
3. The maximum salary offered to the students in the campus placement was 48 LPA of QuantBox and average salary was 11 LPA.
4. More than 80 percent of students got placements in core engineering sector like Tata Steel, L&T, JSW Steel, ArcelorMittal etc the average salary offered was between 8-12 LPA.
5. More than 15% students selected IT/software job profiles with average salary of 15 LPA along with some of the major recruiters being Microsoft, Amazon, Infosys etc. CSE/ECE branch: Approx 5-10 students got offered salary ranges 30-40 LPA in QuantBox, Optiver, Tower Research etc.
