NIT Durgapur - Admission, Courses, Fees & Rankings 2024

NIT Durgapur now named as National Institute of Technology Durgapur is one of the prestigious Institutes among the 31 NITs established across the country under the Government of India. NITD was established in the year 1960 as REC, and it was shifted to NIT status in the year 2003. In fact it is an institute of national importance as has been recognized by the Government of India. As for the accreditation status, NITD has been accredited from NAAC and graded as ‘A’. In the latest NIRF rankings 2023 released recently, NITD is ranked 65 among Engineering colleges in India.  

The programmes to be taught include undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in the fields of engineering such as computer science, electrical electronics, mechanical, civil, chemical, metallurgical and biotechnology engineering among others. The process of admission in the BTech program is through JEE Mains and then Counseling. Admissions to MTech are based on the GATE scores achieved by the students.. The institute operates with semesters and end semester examinations are usually held twice. The admission process for the BTech course for the batch 2024-25 will start around March 2023 and the details regarding the academic eligibility, documents needed etc.  

NITD has maintained a very good placement record with reputed companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Infosys, Wipro, IBM, HPCL, IOCL, ONGC, Tata Motors, Mahindra, L&T offering placements to the students. As per the recruitment portal the highest salary package was of 48 LPA and the average salary package of 8.25 LPA in the year 2023. The statistics we have for the previous academic year show that 85.2% of the students were successfully placed. Some of the prominent employers are Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Maruti Suzuki, BHEL and many more core engineering companies and Information Technology service sector companies.

National Institute of Technology Durgapur has yielded remarkable placement results in the placement season of 2022-23. About 474 of the students took placements and out of this 83% and above were placed in companies. Some of the prominent recruiters were Microsoft, Samsung, Infosys, Wipro, Tata Steel, Larsen and Toubro etc, most of the roles were in Software development, core engineering, analytics, consultancy and so on. The highest package was 43.33 LPA offered by QuantBox. The overall median salary offered to candidates across all branches was pretty impressive, at 10.8 LPA.
