Savitribai Phenke Pune University (SPPU) formerly known as University of Pune is one of the prestigious universities of Pune in Maharashtra. It was founded in the year 1949 and it comes under the Directorate of Distance Education which is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU). SPPU is accredited with NAAC ‘A+’ grade and has been listed among the 75 universities in India in the NIRF 2023 ranking. The university is officially mandates with jurisdiction over the Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik districts. More than 800 affiliate institutions of SPPU are colleges based in the state of Maharashtra and the university admits more than 8 lakhs of students every year.
The university is renowned for its undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in humanities, science, commerce, engineering, law and interdisciplinary area. The admission in the colleges and universities of Karnataka state is also through CET, entrance tests, merit etc. Exams are normally conducted in the months of April/May and November/December of every year. The admission process for the year 2024 will start approximately around August 2023 at the official website. Admission will be given on merit with regard to the scores obtained in the qualifying examination and entrance test. Program of study, admission requirements and tuition rates differ according to the discipline and degree levels. SPPU offers a range of courses such as MBA, MCA, MSc, MA, ME/MTech ,LLB and integrated MSc-PhD.
SPPU also provides placement services for its students to get placed in various companies. Getting an idea about the existing placement scenario, there are practically more than 500 companies that visit the campus/organization for placement each year. Companies like Accenture, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Capgemini, and many more frequently recruit graduates from this stream. The average of the salary packages provided to its candidates come between 3 LPA to 8 LPA. Placement percentage remains high and impressive with 78% of students getting placed with maximum offers both in IT, banking and manufacturing sectors. The highest salary package a student has been offered on campus is 48 lakhs per annum. The university has strong connections with industries and has provisions for internships too, which supports students in their professional lives.
