The conditions set as a prerequisite differ depending on which department it concerns. For B.Tech in Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics, Mechanical and Civil Engineering the candidate should have passed 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with not less than 60% marks combined in PCM. Accepted examination boards are CBSE, ICSE & State boards. For BSc programs such as Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Technology, Mathematics and Physics the candidate should have passed 12th grade Science stream with minimum 60% marks. They range from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and various State Boards. BA in Economics, Psychology Sociology English and Journalism takes 12th grade from any background and at least 55% of the batch average. Exams are CBSE, ICSE, IB or State Boards exams, etc.

TDU- Bangalore is the University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology that offers PhD programs in several departments such as Biotechnology, Computational Biology, Health Sciences, Public Health, and Nursing Departments. Admission to PhD programmes is a selective process and eligibility criteria may differ from one department to another. For Biotechnology the candidate must have Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Bioinformatics or any other related field with minimum 55% marks in aggregate. Permissible tests include CSIR-NET, GATE, and ICMR-JRF only for the designated categories of students. The prerequisites for Computational Biology include a postgraduate degree from a recognized University in Bioinformatics, Computational Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or any related field with at least 60% marks.
