Tumkur University Tumkur - Admission, Courses, Fees & Rankings 2024

Tumkur University is a State University and is situated in Tumkur of the Karnataka State. Dated back in 2004 it has been accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and recently it has got ‘B’ grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). According to the NIRF Rankings 2023, which was released recently, Tumkur University has been placed in the 101-150 rank band in the University category.

It provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes in Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, and Management. These are basic courses that students take and they include; BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, MA, MSc, MCom, MBA, BEd and so on. End semester examinations for even semesters are conducted in the months of October November and the results are announced in January for the respective even semesters Similarly examinations for odd semesters are held in April May and the results are declared in July accordingly. It should be noted that the admission for the 2024 batch will start from May 2023. Students complete application forms, either online or off, in order to apply. The students are selected on merit, and the qualifying exam gives them the chance to get enrolled in the various programs. 

The university has placement records with a recurrent trend of successful recruiters such as Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, etc. The maximum salary package provided in the placement for 2021-22 was Rs.6.5 LPA and the median salary was Rs. 2.5 LPA. Last year, more than three-quarters of students who offered themselves for placements found jobs. Several industries that employ students include the IT/ITES industries, the education sector, the health sector, and the banking and financial sector. The university has a training and placement cell available for its students with preparation workshops, mock interviews, and placement opportunities.

Tumkur University Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)

1. For admission to under graduate programs, candidates are required to pass class 12 or an examination equivalent to a class 12 level examination recognized by the central government board with the minimum percentage of passing marks as laid down for the respective program, generally it ranges from 45-50% marks.

2. For postgraduate programs, candidates must possess first degree of any recognized university in the specific area of the proposed postgraduate program with minimum aggregate marks for admission again varying depending on the course. 

3. For admission to the MPhil and PhD programs, one has to possess a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject with minimum 55% marks in the aggregate of the parent subject plus qualifying the TUMKURSET entrance exam.

4. Reservation policy of the respective categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PWD, etc are being followed as per the government rules and regulations to take admission for all programs. Qualifying certificates have to be presented.

5. There are restrictions especially in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs especially the professional courses where there is a limited age one can attain upon joining a program. Remunerations provided as per rules and regulations laid down.

6. Apart from academic results, University also takes into account the candidate’s behavior during interview, group discussion etc., conducted by the University during the admission process only.

The wage structure of computer science engineers is around Rs. 4-6 lacks per annum for a median package. The placement rate is normally at 60-70 percent and the students get placed in both Information Technology service companies and engineering companies. Some of the industriscal relationships include Memorandum of Understanding with industries to facilitate internships and place students into the market upon completion. In general, Tumkur University placements offer good prospects to students seeking for initial employment.
