Oceanography is a postgraduate degree program offered to students under the name Master of Science (M.Sc) in Oceanography. The program normally takes 2 years, and covers areas of study that include; physical oceanography, chemical oceanography, marine geology, marine biology, coastal management, and many more. The students acquire knowledge about tools and techniques of oceanographic investigation and data analysis using computers, satellites, ships, buoys.

The entrance examination that can be used for joining M.Sc Oceanography programs in India include CUCET, JAM, GATE and University level tests. UG institutes may also prescribe UGC-NET or B.Sc/B.Technical points for admission offers. Other requirements may include interviews, statement of purpose, recommendation letters depending on the specific institute.

MSc Oceanography Course Eligibility 2024

1. Minimum 50% in Bachelor’s degree in science stream Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Biology from a recognized university. 

2. Students of the following streams are also eligible; Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Aquaculture, Fisheries and other related courses.

3. Here some colleges carry out tests before admission while others consider merit.

4. Candidates with a good academic record and interest in the oceans and their process will be considered an advantage. 

5. Should have done relevant subjects in their graduation and could be in ecology, geology, biology, physics, chemistry and the likes.

6. Getting admission requires some experience in marine research projects though it is not compulsory.
