Master of Arts (MA) in Linguistics is an advanced course in the scientific analysis of language and its elements. This program usually takes two academic years and offers more in-depth study of major subfields of linguistics such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics as well as various research methods. Descriptive linguistics, field linguistics, computational linguistics, neurolinguistics are courses under which students fine tune their analytical skills as well as enhance their linguistic knowledge.
The entrance exams acceptable for admission to MA Linguistics program include: UGC NET in Linguistics, JNU entrance test, DUET, CUCET conducted by various Central Universities, JMI entrance test, TISSNET by Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Some universities provide direct admission on the basis of the bachelor’s scores or an interview.
