MA in Fashion Design is an innovative program providing profound knowledge of fashion design’s creative and commercial sides. Some of the subjects taught in the 2-year course include fashion illustration, draping, pattern making and garment construction, fashion merchandising, buying, and marketing. They get to learn about textiles, fabrics, trends and even develop their own design personality and collection.
The minimum time it takes to complete the programme leading to the award of MA in Fashion Design is two years. However, the duration of 1.5 years may also be possible in some institutes through fast track mode. The entrance examinations accepted for the purpose of admission mainly include NIFT, NID, CEED but many institutes have their own entrance tests and interviews to judge interest, creativity and aptitude of the candidates.

1. A completed degree in fashion design or a similar field such as textile, apparel design, accessory design and more, with 50% pass mark, from an accredited university.
2. For candidates from other fields, a graduate degree in any subject or a diploma in fashion design with at least 50 percent marks and a portfolio of fashion design work done by the candidate.
3. Portfolio: Pattern making and draping ,construction, fashion illustration, computer- aided design, knowledge of textiles and fabrics, and other skills.
4. Meeting the entrance examination of the institute offering the program, and personal interviews to determine the interest and ability of the candidate.
5. Many institutes also ask for the qualified score in the tests like CEED or NIFT to prove one’s suitability for creative profession.
6. Recommendation letters, statement of purpose, writing samples may also be used in the process of admission in certain colleges. Ideally, candidates with prior work experience in the field are considered preferable.
