Gauhati Medical College and Hospital commonly known as GMCH is one of the prestigious Medical College in Assam, India and was established in year 1960. It was founded in 1936 and is among the first and the renowned medical colleges in North East India. The GMCH is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and also is approved by the Government of Assam. It has been accredited and placed in grade ‘A’ by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). In the NIRF rankings 2023 of medical colleges, GMCH stands 22nd in all India Rankings.
It has a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs with a focus on a range of fields of study. For MBBS, the entrance exam is the NEET UG with examinations conducted mostly in the month of may every year. For MD/MS courses, NEET PG is the entrance examination taken by the students. The application for the exams is usually done 3-4 months before the exams are scheduled to be held. Apart from MBBS and MD/MS, GMCH also conducts diploma courses, M.Ch and D.M super speciality courses in 22 specializations. As for the 2024 admission exams, it is still unknown to the public as announced by the National Testing Agency. This process includes qualifying the national level entrance tests, applying for the specific course and participating in the counselling process.
