Journalism and Mass Communication is an undergraduate degree program called Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours in Journalism and Mass Communication that deals with different aspects of print and broadcast journalism, media and communication management. The curriculum of the course is designed in such a manner that the students are able to gain full time three years education to understand about the theoretical as well as the practical aspect of the world of mass media and communication. It comprises of areas such as Media theories, Principles of journalism, Editing and Layout, Research methods in communication, Photojournalism, Film and Media appreciation, Political communication, Advertising, Media law and Ethics. Students also complete few practical training exercises in order to receive basic experience in media writing and production.
For the aspirants seeking admission in the BA (Journalism and Mass Communication), the students should clear 12th standard examination from any board of the country with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC) and above. Alternatively, they are also required to sit for the national or state level entrance exams such as IPU CET, BHU UET, Assam CEE, AMU Entrance test, SNDT Test, CUET PG or any test conducted by different private college/s. Other criteria that are taken into consideration when admitting students include fluency in written and oral communication, the general knowledge of the student, and passion for the media and journalism. In general, attention is paid to the influence and creativity, desire and orientation to work in media, as well as logical and analytical skills and interpretation.
