BA [Hons.] Journalism is an academic program that can be studied at an undergraduate level, and it is designed to produce skills necessary for journalism and media industries. It is a 3-year full time course wherein various subjects such as Media laws and ethics, News reporting, News editing, Photographic journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, etc. are taught to the students in order to make them able to find out, Analyse, understand and present news for print media, electronic media and internet media. In the curriculum the theoretical knowledge is combined with the practical elements including the laboratory classes, internships, and media productions. Students develop writing skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, analytical and critical thinking skills to take them into some of the following careers: news reporters, sub-editors, media researchers, photojournalists, TV/Radio journalists among others.  

The requirement criteria applicable to admission in BA {Hons.} Journalism course is passing of class 12th in any stream with minimum 50% overall percentage of marks. Some of the institutes take into account the performance of the candidate in common entrance tests like; CUCET (Central University Common Entrance Test), IPU CET (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test), SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test), etc Along with entrance test score, the institutes also take into account the 12th standard mark, achievement in extra curriculum, performance in the entrance test for admission. The fee range from INR 50000 to 5 lakhs for full course and they differ according to the type of the institute.

BA (Hons.) Journalism Admission Process

1. The bachelor's degree in any field will be required. A preliminary English proficiency may be required for non-native speakers. 

2. Must have the dexterity of writing hand and passion for what is happening around. Expert in those areas but a good storyteller is desired.

3. Admissions goes through qualifying exams and/or interview process that assesses the candidate's personal qualities and motivation. 

4. Program duration: 3 years. Builds a capacity in news writing, features packaging, editorial process incorporating print, television, and online broadcasting.

BA {Hons} Journalism Course Eligibility 2024

1. 10+2 passed or equivalent examination conducted by a recognized board with minimum 50% marks for the general category and 45% marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category.

2. Minimum of five credits including English in their ‘O’ level results together with ‘A’ level passes for candidates who wishes to join the program through the direct entry into the second year of the program A Bachelors degree in any field from any recognized university.

3. IUET B. Thesis/Projects/Research Papers: Entrance test conducted by the University/Institute or any state/national level examination like IPU-CET, SET, etc. 

4. Minimum age 17 years. No upper age limit

5. If the chosen subject medium is not English in class 10 and 12, then their English language proficiency level.
