B.Sc Mathematics is an undergraduate academic degree in the field of mathematics this degree normally takes three years to complete. The topics that are taught under this program include Calculus, Linear Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Probability and real-life applications of Mathematics like Real Analysis, Topology, Mathematical modeling, Data Analysis, etc. The program is designed to equip the learners with profound knowledge of mathematical theories and techniques and to develop their problem solving skills which will enable them to work in various fields of specialization such as engineering, data analysis, teaching, actuary, finance, research.
The principal entrance tests recognised for admission in B.Sc Mathematics are the national level tests such as JEE Main, CUCET or any other science and engineering entrance examination on state level. The entrance exams for admission into B.Sc course are conducted by some universities themselves whereas some of them offer admission based on the scores obtained by the candidate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in standard 12 examinations. The general criteria for the students to be admitted are 50-60 percentiles in PCM in Std XII from a recognized board/University like CBSE or state.
Particulars | Details |
---|---|
Full Form | Bachelor of Science in Mathematics |
Duration | 3 years (6 semesters) |
Course Level | Undergraduate |
Eligibility | 10+2 Science (PCM) or equivalent with minimum 50% marks |
Top Colleges | Delhi University (DU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Fergusson College (Pune), St. Xavier's College (Mumbai) |
Entrance Exams | Common University Entrance Test (CUET), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, university-specific exams |
1. Hold minimum Class XII pass or equivalent qualification with Mathematics as one of the subjects. Mathematics should be passed with mark of at least fifty five percent.
2. It is worth mentioning that some colleges demand taking an entrance examination conducted by the institute or university.
3. Therefore, in case of reserved category students, the minimum percentage of marks in 10+2 mathematics may be allowed to be reduced subject to government guidelines.
4. English is mandatory in 10+2 level to satisfy the eligibility criteria to get into colleges.
5. Minimum age for participation is 17 years but this may change depending on the us college regulations.
6. The onus is on the candidate to meet the eligibility criteria which are however not compulsory for admission depending on merit, entrance test performance if any and space available.
1. JEE Main stands for Joint Entrance Examination Main – a test conducted at the national level for admission to NITs, IIITs and other Institutes funded by the central government.
2. CUET – national level Common University Entrance Test for admission to Central University and Other universities/institutes who are members of CUET.
3. State CETs – the examinations held by the state government to facilitate admissions in state owned universities and colleges
4. JAM: It is the abbreviated form of Joint Admission Test and this exam is conducted for admitting the students in M.Sc programs in IITs, IISc, IISERs and several other institutes that are involved in this process.
