Diploma in Music refers to a diploma level course in the field of music that generally takes 1 to 2 years for completion. This course deals with things like theory and practice in music. The subjects are music theory, aural skills, sight-singing, music history and appreciation, composition, harmonic analysis, performance study, piano skills, conducting, and music technology. Students are made to select a strand out of the existing ones such as vocals, guitars, percussion and so on.
The duration of Diploma in Music course is 1 year for the candidates who have passed 10+2 examination and 2 years for the candidates who have passed 10th examination. There are also part time diploma programs which are offered by some institutes and can take longer time to be completed. Admission into the Diploma in Music programmes is normally done based on the outcome of an entrance exam organized by the institute. 1. The candidate should have passed 10+2 examination in any stream from a recognized board of education with minimum 50% mark.
