The Master of Philosophy in Engineering is a research level program that is normally taken at postgraduate level and takes a period of two years. It consists of higher level research work in different branches of engineering such as mechanical, civil, electrical, computer science, electronic and the likes. Students are expected to carry out research work in a particular area of specialization under a faculty member or a supervisor and they have to produce a dissertation at the end of the program.
The basic requirement for admission to M.Phil in Engineering is that the candidate must possess the Master’s degree in the respective Engineering field with an overall pass percentage of 55%. The entry requirements of various institutes offering this programme include GATE, NET or any other national level test or the institute level tests conducted by IITs and other famous engineering colleges.

1. A candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology with minimum 55% marks or equivalent CGPA from any university recognized by the Indian university.
2. Secure an entrance exam similar to GATE/NET or any other entrance exam for central/ state level conducted by other agencies.
3. Candidate who qualify for the next stage are required to sit for an interview/viva voce that is conducted by the institute.
4. At final stage of selection, candidate are evaluated on a basis of their performance in the written test, the interview and their academic scores.
5. Passing of the GATE/NET score provides a student an option for not writing the written entrance test in some cases.
6. Further more the various criteria may form part of the process depending on the government policy in relation to reserved category candidates.
