Master in Social Work is an MSW course where the students educate on the profession of social work. The MSW course takes 2 years for full-time students while part-time programs may take up to 3-4 years. The course composition is comprises of certain subjects as welfare policies, social problems of India, counselling, human resource management, method of social work research, etc. The student have to do the field work and write dissertation in second year. The program prepares the students for the analysis of socio-economic issues and for the development and facilitation of intervention programs to enhance the well-being of a society.
The standard entry tests recognized for admission to MSW programs across universities are TISSNET from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, CET from Mumbai University and other Universities of respective states. Some of the colleges like Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University conduct their own entrance examination for the admission of the MSW course. Some of the institutes also provide direct admissions based on graduation scores. Contenders have to qualify for the relevant examination as per the institute they are looking for admission in. These include qualifying cut-off scores, group discussion and personal interviews as part of the admission process. Experience in social sector would be preferred.

1. A candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized university. Hirings may be made especially from people that have degrees in sociology, psychology, social work among other related fields.
2. MSW admission does not have any restriction when it comes to age. This 2-year full-time master’s program is open to the recent graduates and those who already have some working experience.
3. Some of the essential qualities that the institutes seek in the personnel include skills in communication, analysis, social orientation, patients, and willingness to work in the stressful conditions.
4. Institutes may conduct a personal interview round and/or an entrance test for admission which the applicant needs to clear with the minimum qualifying marks in order to receive the final confirmation of admission.
5. Candidates who have worked in NGOs or social projects or those who have been engaged in any social activities may stand a better chance in the screening process but it is not compulsory.
6. The candidates must demonstrate commitment to seek a career in social work for the betterment of society through NGOs, government organizations, policy-making, academics, or research after the completion of MSW.
