MA in Sociology is a two years post graduate degree programme that is designed to impart knowledge and understanding of society and its mechanism. The MA Sociology usually takes 2 years of study and it is comprising of 4 semesters. Some of them are Sociological theories, Methods of sociological research, Social issues and problems, Sociology of development, Industrial Sociology, Rural Sociology, Sociology of religion. Students are trained in qualitative and quantitative research procedures and are required to write a dissertation at the end of the program using research work done by the student.
Some of the widely accepted entrance tests for admission in MA Sociology are CUCET- Central Universities Common Entrance Test, TISSNET- Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test, IGNOU OPENMAT- Indira Gandhi National Open University Admission Test and other entrance tests of universities /institutes offering the course of MA Sociology. In addition, on the basis of merit, some Institutes may also offer direct admission to the students who have passed the qualifying examination which is a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks.
