An MBA is a postgraduate diploma that specialises in business and management, offering advanced knowledge and understanding of the field. An MBA course can take 2 years of continuous learning and training if it is taken as a full course, and it may even take more if taken as a part-time course. Core courses are taught subjects such as accounting, economics, marketing, finance, operations, and strategy, and a number of electives as well. Besides class and lectures, often there are consulting projects, internships or research components to offer real-life experiences. An MBA is an attempt to build quantative and qualitative analytical skills for business decision making and qualitative skills for the management of business organizations.
Common entrance exams accepted for admission into an MBA program are: GMAT – The Graduate Management Admission Test is a standardized test designed to measure a candidate’s ability to solve numerical problems and also their command over language, their analysis capability, and their ability to write, and for interpersonal skills. GRE – It is the Graduate Record Examination that assesses the ability of the person to understand and analyze information in the verbal and quantitative areas and write arguments and essays. Some of them consider similar tests like the CAT widely used for admitting students to the undergraduate program in business in India and several other countries. Two to five years of professional experience in a related field is also required usually along with an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree, statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and others requirements set by the particular business school.

1. Graduation – Any graduate from a recognized university with the minimum of fifty percent marks or its equivalent CGPA.
2. Scores achieved in the entrance examinations as CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT/ATMA or state level entrance examinations. Some colleges may also want to know results of tests such as GMAT / GRE.
3. Work experience is not compulsory in general MBA, but it is preferred by most of the MBA colleges. Normally, it is required that students gained at least 1-2 years of working experience in related areas after graduation.
4. This depends with the institute that you are joining but an average institute prefers a candidate with an age not exceeding 30 years for the general MBA program.
5. Sufficient verbal, written and interpersonal skills, knowledge of current affairs and mathematical, logical and critical thinking abilities as evaluated by the institutes through group discussions and personal interviews.
6. Other colleges also do prefer the previous academic performance, co-curricular activities and other credentials while admitting a candidate through their own tests and interviews.
