M.Sc. Bioinformatics is a postgraduate level programme, which takes 2 years to complete and is an interdisciplinary course that combines computer science and information technology with molecular biology. This postgraduate program is aimed at offering education in disciplines such as genomics, proteomics, drug design, and more employing the advanced bioinformatics software and database systems. The students are taught various courses including programming, databases, algorithms and statistics, gene expression, molecular modeling, Genomics, Proteomics, bioinformatics and computational biology.
It is not the normal practice that M.Sc. programme of any university should completed in two academic sessions but since the University of Ibadan has provided the opportunities for our studying, we shall endeavour to complete our M.Sc. programme within one and half year session. Bioinformatics course is 2 years full time course. Certain institutes also provide joint M.Sc-Ph.D. programs with a span of 5 years. The entrance exams recognized for admission to M.Sc that are very common are Some of the bioinformatics examination that are being conducted in universities/ institutions are : CSIR UGC NET for JRF, GATE (BT/XL), IISc Entrance Exam, JAM, TIFR GS, Pondicherry University Entrance, BHU PET, JNUEE, Manipal Uni MET, AMURET etc.
