The M.Sc. Botany is a two year course of study aimed at providing knowledge on scientific study of plant life. In this area students enhance their knowledge of plant structures and functions, organization and classification, plant environment interaction, and molecular characteristics. This program is meant to equip the students with a higher level of plant science knowledge to enable them to join research and teaching section or undertake careers in industries and government ministries.

The number of semesters to complete M.Sc. program varies from university to university, on average it takes one and half to two years. Bachelor of Botany program in India is for two academic years. However there are some special cases through which the program is offered alongside with the Bachelor’s degree and it takes five years to complete. It should also be noted that the requirements for acceptance are different in every university. Some of the entrance tests accepted for admission to universities in India at the all India level are : NET, GATE, and state level tests. Most schools consider the marks obtained by the holder in their bachelor’s degree as a basis for admission. Some of the colleges have set their own examination and they use it as a basis for admission. Aspirants can choose the colleges that they want to get into, based on the entrance tests that they pass or the standards that are set for the admission.
