M.Sc Organic Chemistry is an academic as well as a professional Chemistry specialization course at postgraduate level, which covers the area of understanding about the structure, properties, composition, reaction and preparations of chemical compounds of carbon. The detailed syllabi for two-year course comprise of reaction mechanisms, spectroscopy, heterocyclic compound, bioorganic chemistry catalysis, polymers and more To build the research skills the students work in their respective dissertations and laboratory work.
The entrance tests that are recognized for admission for the course are CSIR NET, GATE, IIT JAM and TIFR. Some universities and colleges also take standard tests such as GRE, CAT and GMAT or conduct their own competitive examinations. The candidates then go through group discussions and personal interview session to complete the selection process of the shortlisted.

Entrance Exam | Many universities conduct entrance exams specifically for M.Sc. programs (e.g., IIT JAM), while some base admission on merit (B.Sc. marks). |
1. Education requirement: Bachelor’s degree holder in Chemistry or in other fields of chemistry related subjects including biochemistry with minimum percentage of aggregate marks between 50% to 55% from a recognized university.
2. In a case where a student is in the final year of graduation, he/she can also apply provisionally provided the minimum qualification marks has been met.
3. While some universities have entrance exams for students who want to be enrolled, some of them consider merit.
4. Adequate understanding of concepts such as those of physical, organic and inorganic chemistry is crucial in order to meet postgraduate course demands.
5.For admission in certain colleges/universities, having a good English language proficiency is a must.
6. Some universities may require 2 years research experience in laboratory for the direct admission into Ph.D program after passing M.Sc.
1. CUCET represents Central Universities Common Entrance Test used for admission to the central universities.
2. JNUEE is a short form of Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Exam which measures the student’s research ability as well as his/her knowledge of the subject.
3. BHU PET that stands for Banaras Hindu University Postgraduate Entrance Test helps to evaluate candidates’ analytical thinking.
4. IIT-JAM - Indian Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test for MSc by IIT Delhi examines Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry concepts.
5. GATE – Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering: exams candidates’ aptitude in Chemistry and related sciences.
