M.Phil or Master of Philosophy in History is a two years research based post graduate degree program that may vary from 1-2 years. This program entails the study and doing of history with an emphasis on the different fields that are offered such as Indian history, European history and world history. The students are expected to take seminar courses related to historiography, research methods and techniques as well as specialized options.
The entrance tests accepted for M.Phil History admissions are UGC NET in History, JEST exam, TISS National Entrance Test for Social Science, Pondicherry University Entrance Exam and other state level CETs such as TS CPGET, Kerala University Entrance Exam. Some of the colleges offers admission based on these tests and marks in the Master s degree in History.

1. History as their major subject in Bachelors degree with minimum of 55% in aggregate from any University.
2. A few universities may have added conditions that a candidate must obtain a qualifying score in the entrance test such as JNUEE, CUCET.
3. Only students in their final year of graduation can apply for the programme and should have caught up on whatever percentage they require at the time of admission.
4. This program of study does not have any age limit for admission to M.Phil. History program.
5. Reduction of percentage in percentage to be offered to reserved category candidates as per the government rules.
6. If one possesses a Postgraduate degree in any allied subjects such as Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration.
