Ph.D. in Energy and Power is one of the postgraduate courses with specialization in energy and power engineering at the doctoral level. The degree usually takes about 4-5 years in general, including both course and thesis. Emphasis is on the advanced topics in energy conversion, power electronics, renewable energy systems, smart grids, electric drives, power system control and protection, high voltage engineering, etc. Some of the courses are theoretical in nature while others have strong application orientation. It is intended to build up research capabilities in several other emerging domains of power sector. The target audience is prepared for the job as energy consultants, conduct industry projects, and continue academic activities.

The Admission to Ph.D. (Energy and Power) shall be based on valid GATE score or CEED score as the entrance exam. The applicants who have appeared UGC-CSIR NET for National Eligibility Test, SET for State Eligibility Test or have qualified through JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) are also eligible to apply. The selection process, which is conducted to select suitable candidates for research in energy and power domains, includes an interview to evaluate the candidate’s interest and aptitude for the same. The applicants who qualified to the final stage of the competition have to provide a description of a possible research proposal that they will develop if selected for funding.
