Ph.D. (Home Science Extension Education) is a 3-year course for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Home Science, offered to students by universities in India. Some of the fields of study includes human development, nutrition, food sciences, resource managements, communication, textiles and any other field of study that seeks to improve the welfare of families and communities. The curriculum offers opportunity to acquire postgraduate level of specialization in research methods, statistics and information and communication technology for extension education programmes. Special emphasis is placed on training of students for planning, implementation and assessment of training and development programmes for rural and urban populace.
The following entrance tests are admissible for entry in to Ph.D. (Home Science Extension Education) programme: UGC National Eligibility Test (NET), State Eligibility Test / State Level Eligibility Test (SET/SLET) or any test conducted by the universities. Here also some of the institutes take valid GATE score or the percentage in the Master’s degree for the entrance. Minimum fifty five percent mark in post-graduation is compulsory to be able to seek admission in doctoral course. As disclosed earlier, the majority of universities offering this doctoral program under the faculty of Home Science prefer prior work experience in teaching, research, or extension education.
