Ph.D. (Information Science & Engineering) is a postgraduate program that specializes in information technology, computer science and its use in widespread domains. The program is designed to build up advanced understanding and research ability in handling various issues that include software systems, data science, artificial intelligence, network security, etc. For the full-time students, Ph.D. in Information Science & Engineering takes about 4-5 years to complete. The first 1-2 years are spent on subjects related to the technical expertise and research methods while the rest of the years are spent on guiding research work culminating in a doctoral thesis.
The admission to the Ph.D. in Information Science & Engineering is undertaken on basis of the score obtained in the GATE, UGC NET or CSIR NET examinations conducted at national level. This proves the candidate has adequate knowledge and ability required for strenuous doctoral level analysis as shown by good performances in these standardised tests. Further, there might be entrance tests and interviews conducted by Institutes before the students are allowed to join Ph.D. in this interdisciplinary area of study. Selection of Ph.D. students in these institutes besides having good performances in admission processes depends on previous academic performances.
