A three-year doctorate program is Ph.D in Otorhinolaryngology, also known as ENT, which involves the diagnosis of medical and surgical disorders of the ear, nose, throat head and neck. The program comprises of detailed lectures on diseases and disorders of the ear nose and throat including anatomy, physiology, pathology, diagnosis and management. Students build up specialization from advanced courses and research projects and through rigorous clinical clerkships. The Ph.D Otorhinolaryngology degree usually takes 3 years full time study after completing the Master’s degree but some universities may offer part time study which lasts for 5 years. 

The entry test acceptable for admission in the Ph.D Otorhinolaryngology programs include NEET-PG, AIIMS PG, JIPMER-PG, PGI Chandigarh entrance test, DNB CET, FMGE/MCI test for overseas graduates, and the university test. Questions that are set in the exam are usually as per ENT procedures, anatomy, audiology, head/neck oncology, otology, neurotology, Pediatric ENT and many others; the cutoff scores that one gets are enough to attend counseling sessions to get admissions. Furthermore, the scores obtained in MBBS and MS ENT Courses, research portfolio, publications, awards and the relevant work experience enhance one’s qualification for Ph.D program.

Ph.D (Otorhinolaryngology) Course Eligibility 2024

1. Must have passed the MBBS degree from any recognized university and which is recognized by the MCI or any state medical council in India. Aggregate of 50% or equivalent grade is mandatory in addition to the minimum cuts off in each of the subjects.

2. Minimum 03 years of work experience which includes one-year senior residency in ENT in a recognized hospital after doing Post graduate diploma/degree such as DLO, MS (ENT). 

3. Defining the entrance examination done at AIIMS or other premier institute that is conducted for admission to the Ph.D programs in Otorhinolaryngology.

4. Those who have passed MCh/DNB in ENT they have eligibility to directly apply for Ph.D program if they meet the other criteria of the concerned institute.

5. Must have published at least two research papers in any Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal where he/she has been identified as the first author.

6. It also has no restriction on age but candidates who are under 30 years of age are favored in the selection process for admission to Ph.D.
