The Ph.D., or Doctor of Philosophy degree in Analytical Chemistry is a postgraduate/research-based degree programme, which focuses on providing students with skills, concepts, methodologies, and procedures that enable them to carry out analytical chemistry research on their own. Generally the Ph.D Analytical Chemistry course may take 3 to 5 years for completion. Candidates are expected to perform research projects on their own and under the supervision of a specific academician and present the results of the research in form of a dissertation in order to be awarded a doctorate degree.

Some of the most accepted entrance tests for admission to this course are Graduate Record Examination (GRE) with qualitative, analytical & chemistry sections, Graduate aptitude test in Engineering (GATE) with papers in chemistry, National eligibility test (NET) for Junior research fellowship/ lectureship in chemical sciences and Joint admission test for masters (JAM) with chemistry paper and many other University/Institute level examination which includes the conceptual knowledge of analytical chemistry.
