Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy (Commerce and Management) is an academic degree at the doctoral level offered in the commerce and management discipline. It is a terminal, research-focused degree program that prepares students for the independent research and for creating new knowledge in the specialized fields of commerce and management. In general, Ph.D. (Commerce and Management) takes about 3 to 5 years depending on the university and the requirements of the program.
Admission tests that are recognized for Ph.D. (Commerce and Management) include UGC NET, SET/SLET or any University conducted test. Some other criteria that are followed by the institutes include the valid GATE score or some management entrance tests like CAT/XAT score etc. The admissions are granted in two intakes a year, the winter intakes application usually closes in October or November while summer intakes close in April or May every year. some institutes also open spring or autumn admission sessions with their application time closing between winter and summer cycle months.

1. Minimum Required: Master degree in any of the commerce, management or related field with minimum of fifty five % marks or equivalent grade.

3. Good background in post graduation with no backlogs and gap years. Research aptitude is preferred.

6. Sometimes, a proposal with the intended research area of focus may be required before or at the time of admission into a program.

2. CSIR UGC NET – This is another exam conducted for the purpose of providing research fellowships but similar to the UGC NET, it provides fellowships in science subjects only.
3. GATE – Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, a national level examination that serves as a qualifying test for admission to postgraduate programs in Engineering/Technology, Science, and certain disciplines of Arts & Humanities.
4. CAT – Common Admission Test conducted by the IIMs for admission into the Doctoral and fellowship programmes of their institutes as well as other premier B-schools.
5. GMAT: International test recognized by most global MBA schools including the ISB for their doctoral and postgraduate scholarship in management.
