Doctor of Philosophy in Forensic Science is a postgraduate degree program that deals with the analysis of all aspects of crime with an intention to solve it through the application of science. Ph.D. program usually takes three to five years to complete. In duration of the course, students get a vivid and profound understanding of interesting and significant subjects, for example crime scene investigation, evidentiary analysis, forensic chemistry, forensic biology, forensic toxicology and others. Cognitive skills including critical thinking, data analysis, scientific investigation and quantitative reasoning, among others, are also acquired through course work, research and practical training. To get into Ph.D. Forensic Science, there are many entrance examinations that a candidate can appear for, including GRE, GATE, CSIR UGC NET, UGC NET, and the state level examinations. The application dates also differ in each university where they range from December to March for admissions in July/August. Having in mind the important examinations, you have the GRE – November to December, the GATE – February, and the UGC NET – December and June. Some of the application portals for many colleges and universities shut down by early March. Candidates are also required to come for on-campus interviews and qualifying tests before admission to the institution for the final shortlisting. It is advisable students to visit the respective universities and find out the accurate dates and procedures to follow in the application process.
