Doctor of Philosophy is a Doctoral research degree that deals with the structural features, the properties, the composition and reactions of organic compounds which are mainly composed of carbon and hydrogen. A degree in Ph.D. in organic chemistry usually takes 3-5 years and includes formal coursework, seminar presentations, laboratory research, examination, and preparing and defending a dissertation

The following entrance examinations are considered for admission to Ph.D. in organic chemistry in the universities in India: CSIR-UGC NET for JRF, GATE with good rank, Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and Direct Admission to PhD (DAAD) on the basis of B.Tech/M.Sc. on the results of marks in an interview and on performance.
