Doctor of Philosophy or Ph.D. in Philosophy is an advanced terminal degree that awards one the highest academic status in philosophy. In most cases, a Ph.D. in Philosophy will take between 4-6 years of the candidate’s time after obtaining a bachelor’s degree. The degree entails keen focus on subject areas of individual concentration such as ethics, logic, knowledge, existence, language, science.
Standardized entrance tests such as the GRE or the Graduate Record Examination involves the assessment of the candidate’s verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing skills. Some other standardized tests may be acceptable; these include the Philosophy GRE Subject Test, LSAT or GMAT. Recommendation letters, writing samples, GPAs, and interviews are also very influential in the highly competitive admission to Ph.D. programs.
