Remote Sensing is a multifield Ph.D. programme which is concerned with the gathering, interpretation and processing of data gathered from satellite and aerial systems used for observing the earth. Ph.D. Remote Sensing takes about 3-5 years to complete Studies have shown that. The curriculum offers specialized education in geographical concepts and techniques for observing the planet’s land surface, the seas, the atmosphere, and their inter relationships. Digital image processing, microwave remote sensing, hyperspectral remote sensing, LIDAR, photogrammetry etc are taught along with some elective from geography, geology, Environmental science etc Students do research in areas such as land use cover mapping, disaster response, precision agriculture, forestry, etc, using tools like classification algorithms, time series analysis, geospatial modeling etc.

For Ph.D. Remote Sensing standardized entrance exams that are accepted are GRE and GATE. Some of the institutes also have their own set of written tests and interviews to judge the analytical ability and the research aptitude of the candidates. Other specifications may include possession of a master’s degree in geospatial technologies, computer science, earth sciences, or related engineering disciplines, with specified percentage passing grades. The research experience and publications may also be considered by the universities that offer the above mentioned doctoral program.
