Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology or Ph.D. Sociology is the terminal degree available for student in sociology. Normally, it takes about five to six years of intensive study and research to obtain in most cases. 1. The candidate should have minimum 55% marks in Master’s degree in Sociology or in any other relevant discipline from any recognized University.
2. Passing marks in the entrance examination such as UGC NET/SLET, SET, or Ph.D. entrance test conducted by university.
3. Finally, the shortlisted candidates are required to undergo an interview as well as to briefly discuss their research areas of interest.
4. Students are however admitted at the final stage and after their choice of research topic has been assigned a faculty supervisor according to specialization and availability.
5. As for the rest of the candidates who do not possess the Master’s degree in Sociology, they might be given a list of credits they will need to complete according to the admission committee’s recommendations.
