Post Doctoral Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery is an advanced educational programme for the doctors who have completed postgraduate degree in general surgery and would like to pursue focused career in bariatric surgery. The fellowship program takes about 1-2 years during which the fellows get adequate clinical exposure to different kinds of bariatric procedures such as gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch.
The fellowship programs take candidates who passed post graduate entrance examinations such as USMLE, MCCEE, PLAB, AMC test etc. The admission process also comprises academic results, statement of purpose, experience and interview. The programs are very selective and the intention of the programs is to give advanced surgical training to produce leaders in the field of metabolic & bariatric surgery.

1. The candidate must have completed his/her residency training in general surgery and should be certified or should meet the requirements for certification by the board.
2. The candidate should have at least 2 years post-residency experience practicing in bariatric surgery department or unit.
3. Have to fill in the application form, write a personal statement, provide CV and two letters of recommendation, pass the fellowship entrance examination.
4. For an individual to qualify for this position, he or she must posses a valid medical license and be in a position to obtain a training license at the fellowship institution.
5. This should demonstrate good performance in academic productivity during the period of residency training through publication, presentations, award etc.
6. Should document passion for the growth of bariatric surgery with involvement in research and advocacy.
