Birla Institute of Technology abbreviated as BIT is an autonomous university situated in Ranchi, Jharkhand and under the umbrella of RGPV University. BIT Ranchi was set up in 1955 with a vision to providing technical education The institute is accredited with an ISO 9001:2015 certification and is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated by the Government of Jharkhand. BIT Ranchi has been accredited by NAAC and it has scored an ‘A’ grade A and it has secured 65th position in NIRF engineering ranking 2023. The institute runs degree courses in various fields of engineering, technology, and management at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 

BIT Ranchi has the following BTech specializations: Computer Sc & IT, Electronics & Communications, Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical and many more. It also offers MTech in Computer Science, MCA & MBA in various specialties along with BCA and BBA courses. This is a two stage process which begins in January for the academic year commencing in the later half of the year where the students are admitted through the JEE Mains and then through institute level counselling. BIT Ranchi offers good placement to its students, the various companies that visit for placements are TATA Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, IBM, Larsen and Toubro, Maruti Suzuki etc, visit the campus every year. Top recruiters are Flipkart, CBI, HCL, etc., the highest salary package was of 27 lakhs per annum offered in the year 2022. It must also be mentioned that a large number of students from this course were placed in various organizations last year, out of which more than 85% students got placed. The median of salary packages offered to the graduates was around 7 lakhs per annum. Some of the major recruiters are Bosch, IBM, Deloitte, Infosys, Accenture and so on. Birla Institute of Technology Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)

1. As for the eligibility criteria for the B.Tech programs, the applicant must have passed the 10+2 level examination or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with an aggregate percentage of sixty percent. There are certain relaxations which are allowed for the candidates belonging to the reserved categories.

2. For MTech programs, the candidate must have passed the B.Tech/B.E. examination in a relevant branch with minimum 60% marks. Unlike other institutes where admissions can be through management quota, most of the institutes take admissions through scores obtained in exams like GATE. 

3. The eligibility for MBA programs are that the MBA candidate should have passed their bachelor’s degree in any discipline with not less than 50 percent of marks. Most of the intakes are based on scores obtained in tests such as CAT / MAT, and group discussion / personal interview.  

4. For MCA program, one must have the completion of a Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics at 10+2 level or graduation level with minimum 50% marks. Its intake is through the NIMCET exam that is conducted by the university for all the admitted students.

5. For the PhD programs the candidates are required have a master’s degree in the relevant field with at least 55% marks. The students should undergo an exam known as the RET and undergo an interview as well.

6. As for age requirements, the upper limit for general category is 28 years for any program offered. Concession allowed on the basis of standard age relaxation prescribed by the Government for the SC/ST/OBC candidates.

BIT is a leading technological institute occupying about 200 acres in Mesra offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering and technology, management, architecture and sciences.
