Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School of Economics is a self-governing college situated in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. BASE was set up in the year 2017 by the Government of Karnataka and is UGC recognized University. The institute has NAAC accreditation and has received ‘A’ Grade in 2021. According to the NIRF 2023 ranking, BASE has been ranked under 101-150 overall ranking in the list of the best economics institutes across the country.
BASE currently has postgraduate diploma, masters and PHD programmes in various disciplines including Economics, Finance & Accounting, Sustainable Development, Data Science, Public Policy, etc Admission is normally in January every year. For the academic year 2024, BASE has issued notification for PG diploma courses where the last date to apply is 31st March 2024. Exam for admission will be in form of a written test which will take place in second week of April, group discussion and personal interview. The admission test for M.Sc will be held on 15th May 2024 with the application deadline being the 30th April.
The placement cell at BASE conducts interviews with topmost corporates and multinational companies which provide good career options for the students. In 2022 there were many companies coming for campus placement drive such as ICICI, Deloitte, KPMG, Axis Bank and many more. The maximum salary offered was Rs. 25 lakhs per annum while the median salary offered was Rs. 7 lakhs per annum. More than 90 percent students participated in on-campus recruitment and got placed. So, BASE has good connections with the industry and a vibrant placement culture.

1. Master's Degree Programs (M.Sc./M.A.): Minimum of a four-year Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in the relevant field with at least 50% marks for general category candidates and 45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates. Entrance examination and interview held.
2. MPhil Programs: Possessing a Master’s degree in relevant field with at least 55% of the aggregate marks. Entrance test and interview held to determine research ability.

6. Lateral Entry Admissions: The students are allowed to seek direct admission in 2nd year of two year master’s programs if any seats are available as per merit and eligibility.

The postgraduate diploma is a one-year program that aims at equipping the students with analytical tools for economic policy and research. The M.Sc. programs are 2-year courses that are offered in specific fields such as Agricultural Economics, Environmental & Resources Economics, Financial Economics and Actuarial Economics & Risk Management. These establish a solid base in economic theory and methods that are quantitive and pertinent to each area.
In the Ph.D. program, students are required to complete coursework in the first year, which includes advanced topics in economics, econometrics, as well as methods relevant to the field of specialization.
