NIT Jalandhar known as Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar is one of the reputed engineering colleges of India offering courses in Engineering, Science, Management and Humanities in under graduate and post graduate level. For the eligibility criteria it can be noted that it widely differs from one department to another as well as from one course to another. For admission to all the BTech programs like Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil and other engineering branches, the candidate has to qualify the JEE Mains and minimum 75% marks in 12th board with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. For MTech, a candidate should have BTech/BE degree or its equivalent from a recognized university with minimum 60% mark in aggregate. For the MSc programs in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and other science disciplines, the candidates should have completed the relevant Bachelor’s degree with at least 55% aggregate For MBA, the candidates are required to clear the CAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT Examinations along with a Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% combined percentage.
The significant courses and stream for the academic year 2024 are BTech in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, M Tech in several fields, MSc in Physics Chemistry Mathematics, MCA, MBA and other post graduate and PhD program. B.Tech and Integrated MSc courses require the candidate to have to take JEE Mains 2024 examination conducted in January and April 2024. For MTech, a candidate must have appeared and qualified GATE 2023 exam. For MBA and MCA admission the candidate should take the examinations like CAT, MAT in the months of November 2023- January 2024. Admissions are conducted through online application, entrance tests, counselling and admissions process with document checks before enrolments. For the year 2024 the tentative application process shall be from March to May 2024, counselling from June to July 2024 and admission confirmation by August 2024 for the session 2024-25.

The first process of applying is through the use of the website where intentors must complete an online application form together with application fees. After the candidates have filled the application form, the soft copy of the filled application form along with the scans of the documents and certificates required have to be posted or dropped at the Institute office or posted/couried later. The documents are to be attested by a gazetted officer They are not to be certified or attested by any person who is related to the candidate. Fees for the application can be submitted online through credit card, debit card, net banking or can be through bank challan in offline mode.
The institute waits for all the applications and then comes out with merit lists of successful candidates who are then called to attend counselling sessions. The counselling sessions for the purpose of finalizing the admission are face to face mode conducted at the campus in several phases. Original documents that mean passports, visas, marks sheets, etc have to be produced by the candidate and candidate has to be present with the same. Program/Branch choice is carried out in accordance with the candidate preferences, rankings, and vacancies.

- The JoSAA counseling involves seat allotments in the NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs for the candidates in accordance to the preferences of the candidate and the availability of the seat in the institute on the basis of their rank.

- It is pertinent to mention here that along with the JEE main ranks, the candidates also have to fulfill the other criteria with respect to age, marks obtained, etc as prescribed.
1. Information regarding the availability for admissions to the PhD course can be accessed in the institute’s website or reaching the academics section where they announce the admission schedule usually during June-July every year.
2. Try to find out the availability of the department and the possible advisor/guide for the chosen field when the advertisements are open. Start by talking to your academic advisor and your professors regarding your areas of interest.
3. Go through the PhD application form and provide information in it as suggested by the authorities. An aptitude test will be conducted and it will be followed by an examination of the personality of the candidate by the interviewer.
4. Although the type of information that the application will request varies depending on the specific program you are applying for, you will generally need to supply your research proposal, academic records, test scores, and transcripts, work experience if any, publications etc.
5. Return the application to the department or to the academics section before the deadline is up. Application fee has to be paid online or through DD and the brochure too is online.
6. The short listed candidates are the ones who will be contacted and to offer them a written test and/ or interview. There are no quotas, and the final list is drawn up solely on merit.
7. Once offered you need to provide all your original documents and registration fees for the PhD seat and to get register for the program.
- They give out BTech in Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics; and other branches of engineering. It has its own code and the admission is done through the national level JEE Mains scored.
- In the case of MTech, they have individual postgraduate courses in different departments as well. Bachelor and Master level admissions are done on the basis of national level tests such as GATE.
- They also provide Ph.D. in Engineering and Sciences that includes both full-time and part-time Ph.D. programs. Admissions are conducted both at the national and state level, which requires writing exams and interviews.
1. Candidates will be offered admission after they have taken CAT/MAT for which they will be required to provide the scores. For candidates, they have to produce a valid score in any of these tests.
2. The shortlisted aspirants will be invited for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview to be held at the Institute. The last shortlisting criteria will involve GD/PI performance of the candidate along with their CAT/MAT percentile.
3. In the last stage of the selection the weightage of CAT/MAT is given 70% while the weightage for group discussion and personal interview is 30%.
4. One more requirement is educational qualifications and the percentage criteria in the graduation that the candidates must meet to be considered for the post.
5. As per government policies, there are concessions in fee and other payments, as well as relaxations in terms of attendance for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates.
6. Finally and most importantly in each selection process, candidates are chosen on merit from the overall cumulative scores that are a product of the test scores and GD/PI. The institute also comes up with another final selection or merit list for admission.
1. The notification for MBA admissions can be checked on the website of the concerned institute or in the respective advertisements. Application process is usually in April/May of each year.
2. Just click on the MBA admission notification and then go through the details regarding the eligibility criteria of the MBA, the dates for the admission, the fee structure etc.
3. Visit the portal mentioned in the notification and register on the link. To use the web application, you will be required to sign in with the login credentials of your choice.
4. Candidates are required to visit the official website of the respective organization and register for the application process and then complete the online application by entering all necessary information such as personal details, academic qualification, marks, work experience etc. accurately.
5. Scan with the required documents for upload and may include photographs, signature, age proof, academic certificates, certificates for the category if applicable etc.
6. The payment of the application fees can be made online using the payment gateway available.
7. This completed form together with the transaction details can be downloaded and printed once the desired form is selected.
8. The original copy of the completed application form along with all the enclosures should be sent either by speed post/courier or personally should have to reach the institute on or before the last date.
9. From time to time, students should check the website for various activities such as admit card download, written examination and interview schedule, selection status etc.
10. Participate in GD /PI rounds If called for and see the final list of selected candidates. Pay for fees if called upon to join the institution after going through the selection process.
