Gujarat Maritime University popularly known by abbreviation GMU is a state university situated in Gandhinagar of Gujarat. GMU was set up in the same year and is recognized by the UGC, Directorate General shipping and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with B++ grade. The NIRF University rankings in 2023 ranked GMU between 101-150 for universities across India.
GMU provides a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs for its students in the field of maritime studies, engineering, and management. 1. For undergraduate programs, candidate shall have passed 12th in respective stream with least 50% marks. Entrance test may be part of some of the programs offered.
2. For postgraduate programs, the candidate has to possess the relevant bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate marks. Few programs have given emphasis on valid GATE score.
3. For PhD candidate must have postgraduate degree in related subject with minimum 55% marks and must clear the entrance test and interview.
4. For Lateral entry in under graduate programs, one should have diploma in the concerned branch with not less than 50% marks in order to directly seek admission in the second year.
5. Concessions in percentage of marks needed to qualify in tests in the case of SC/ST/OBC candidates: 5%. The candidates belonging to the physically challenged category are allowed a relaxation of 10 percent.
6. Industry/sponsored candidates must meet respective department regulations of eligibility for admission. Additional requirements may apply.
Placement cell of Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) is equally functional to provide better placements to the students of its university and related industries. Some of the major companies that come for campus placements in GMU and offer attractive packages are Adani Ports, Shipping Corporation of India, Essar Shipping and Varun Shipping. The maximum CTC offered in GMU placements is about Rs. 10 lakhs per annum whereas the median CTC ranges from Rs. 3.5 to 4 lakhs per annum. This university maintained its placement record where majority of the final year students are picked up by various esteemed maritime companies or the shipping industry with more than 80% passing out students.
