Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) is one of the prestigious autonomous law school established in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Incepted in the year 2016, HPNLU is recognized by the Bar Council of India and is approved by the University Grant Commission. The NAAC of India granted HPNLU the A+ score that indicates the high quality of education provided here. Admission process: This normally starts in May of every year. In order to take the BA LLB, the students are selected on the basis of CLAT scores. The University has its own HPNLU CLAT for admission in LLM programs that come under HPNLU Common Law Admission Test. Some important examination dates for admissions to the year 2024 are – CLAT-2024 for admissions to different Undergraduate Law Courses on May 5, HPNLU CLAT for admissions to B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Course on June 12. Those candidates then get enrolled in counselling sessions which are organized in July 2024 for the final entry.
In the short period since its inception, HPNLU has proudly placed the students passing out in law colleges at very good positions. In the 2021-2022 graduating batch prominent recruiters were Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Indus Law, ICICI Bank, Vaish Associates, and trilegal that provided internships and offer letters. The maximum salary that the companies offered was 16 LPA and the median salary was 7 LPA. The overall placement ratio that was documented was 92% in the academic session of 2022. There has been a considerable interest shown by both the premier law firms along with corporate legal departments in hiring the graduates passing out from HPNLU to their organisations due to the skills and legal knowledge they possess. 1. The admission criteria for the 5-year BA LLB program require the candidate to have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination with not less than 45% of marks in aggregate for the open category candidates, 40% for SC/ST candidates.
2. The 3-year LLB course requires the candidate to possess a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST category).
3. For LLM programs, candidates need to have an LLB or any other law degree with minimum 50% of marks in aggregate for General Category candidates and 45% marks for SC/ST candidates.
4. For admission to PhD programs a candidate should have an LLM degree or its equivalent with not less than 55% marks taken together in all the subjects including electives, and those with SC/ST category should have not less than 50% marks in aggregate, the candidate should have also cleared the entrance test and interview.
5. Diploma course: Any graduate from any discipline can apply; however, the percentage requirement is relaxed for the reserved categories.
6. Further conditions may be in force on subject combinations, entrance tests, interviews etc. as contemplated in the University notification.
