Shibpur is a public state technical and research university in Shibpur, West Bengal is known as Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur . The university was founded in 1856 as the Bengal Engineering and Science University and it is one of the oldest and premier University in providing engineering education in India. It is pertinent to mention that IIEST Shibpur has been recently given the status of Institute of National Importance by Government of India. It also got accreditation grade ‘A’ of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and ranked 63rd in the NIRF India Rank 2023.
IIEST currently provides Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in the field of Engineering and Technology, Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Management Science among others Some of the well known bachelors of Technology programmes are Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. These programs are very competitive and one have to sit for exams like JEE Mains and WBJEE to be considered for admission. The admission process usually begins in April each year and there are examinations held between May and June. Those candidates who are finally shortlisted are then called for counselling which is centralized based on the rank of the candidate and his / her preference. The academic year starts in July.

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)
1. Applicants should have cleared their 10+2 or equivalent examination in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and good command over English language. The minimum of the aggregate percentage condition necessary is usually between 60-75%.
2. The basic eligibility criteria for admission into BTech programs involves the candidate having written and cleared the JEE Main or WBJEE examination with the prescribed percentile score. Some of such programs also include other national or state level tests scores in their eligibility criteria.
3. As for the MTech programs, the candidates should have a BTech/BE or an equivalent degree in the specialization along with minimum 60% aggregate marks or CGPA of 6.5 on a scale of 10.
4. For the MSc programs, the candidates must have a BSc degree in the relevant subjects taken at a university with not less than 55% aggregate marks. Some programs also have the requirement for GATE scores which should be valid to apply for the programs.
5. Applicants may also need to fulfill extra criteria such as a valid score in exams like GMAT/CAT etc for some MTech courses that are offered in specific inter-disciplinary areas.
