IIT Kottayam is one of the newly set up Indian Institutes of Technology which was set up by the Government of India in the year 2016. It is fully recognized and the courses offered have been accredited by the University Grant Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) also accredited the IIT Kottayam with a grade of A Plus. The NIRF Rankings 2023 have been recently released and according to the rank IIT Kottayam was placed at 37 among the engineering institutions in India.
With regards to academic offerings, IIT Kottayam has undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in several departments and centres. These are options that cover BTech degrees in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, and MTech degrees in specializations such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Structural engineering. In the admission session of 2024, the IIT Kottayam will be open for students through JEE Advanced examination. 1. Candidate must have cleared the 10+2 or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 60% marks for general category candidates and 55% for reserved category candidates.
2. For BTech programs, a candidate should have passed their 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry mathematics as subjects.
3. For MTech, candidate must be a holder of a BTech/BE degree in the relevant field with not less than 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD).
4. For MSc programs candidate should have passed BSc degree in relevant field with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD).
5. For admission to PhD programs, candidate must have MTech/ME/MSc degree with at least 60% marks in the qualifying exam for general category candidates and 55% marks for SC/ST/PwD category candidates.
6. This is subject to GOI rules and regulations regarding the reserved categories of SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories respectively. Okay with relaxation in the marks required for qualifying.
IIT Kottayam for the graduating batch of the academic year 2024, certain trends are emerging. The overall placement statistics for the batch were quite impressive, with approximately 83% of the candidates who appeared for placements successfully placed in different organisations. Corporate recruiters were from leading organizations like Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Intel, Goldman Sachs, and Mercedes Benz car R&D. Primarily the recruiters were from the software industries and core engineering industries as well as few consulting industries being IT related. The maximum salary offered was INR 43.6 LPA while the median salary and overall salary offer for all branches of engineering and streams was a commendable INR 16.7 LPA, which evidences the quality of talent that the young IIT is already poised to churn out.
