Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Amarkantak (IGNTU), is a central university in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh. IGNTU – the only central university in the country exclusively devoted to tribal education was set in 2007 as per the IGNTU Act of Parliament. UGC which stands for University Grants Commission recognized the IGNTU. Accordingly, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has recently accredited IGNTU and conferred ‘A’ grade with CGPA 3.31. IGNTU was NIRF ranked 95 in the NIRF Rankings 2023 among universities.
IGNTU provides a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various fields of study including science, arts, commerce, teaching etc The university follows CUET, NET, GATE for admission to its programmes Of the total intake capacity of students, 50 percent seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribe candidates. They also provide the facilities of seat reservation for OBC, SC, ST, PwD candidates as per government rules and regulation. Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)
1. Undergraduate – minimum 10+2 or equivalent qualification for admission in the undergraduate programmes. It may be that some programs have certain subjects as prerequisites.
2. For postgraduate studies, one must have a relevant bachelor’s degree with the required minimum pass percentage.
3. MPhil and PhD: minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade in postgraduate degree as per HEC criteria for admission.
4. Percentage of relaxation for SC & ST/ OBC candidates as per government rules and regulation of the country.
5. No age limit.
6. Depending on universities admissions procedure, may have to write university’s entrance exam if any or sit for an interview.

Indira Gandhi National Tribal University does secure reasonable placement for their students each year. Some of the corporate companies that have been known to hire students from IGNTU include Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Infosys, and Cognizant. The placement highest received by the students was Rs 8, 00,000 per annum by TCS in the year 2022. The salary given to the candidates is up to Rs.6000 per month and the average salary package offered to the candidates varies between 40000 to 60000 per year.
