The Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University commonly known as KVAFSU was established in the year 2004 at Bidar in Karnataka state. It is a university established by the state government for the provision of education and research in veterinary, animal and fishery sciences as well as extension services. With regards to its accreditation, KVAFSU has been awarded ‘A’ grade by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.31 and has secured 65th rank in NIRF India Rankings 2023 among agricultural universities in India. 

The university has a number of UG and PG courses for the students in its four constituent colleges and one post graduate center. There are some of the significant programs that it offers includes: BVSc & AH, MVSc, MFSc, Ph.D in Veterinary Science, Animal Science, Dairy Science and Fisheries Science. The total annual intake capacity of the college is around 550 students per year. The university has semester system course curriculum for the students as per the norms and standards of VCI. UG programs have their admission based on the NEET tests In addition, the following overview of the programmes should suffice; However for the PG and Ph.D courses, the students have to write university level entrance exams which are conducted in the months of June and July. Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)

1. For admission in BVSc & AH candidates should have passed the 12th or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English obtaining 50% (40% for SC/ST/Cat-1) marks. Must be 17 years and above in the calendar year of admission or admission year plus one year of study.

2. In case of admission to the BTech Dairy Technology course, candidates need to have passed 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & English with minimum 45% marks. No age limit.

3. Thus, for BTech Fisheries Science, an applicant must secure 45% of marks in 12th standard with Biology/Mathematics/Computer Science/Statistics/Electronics/Agriculture. No age limit.  

4. For admission to the B.Tech Food Technology, the candidate should have passed 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology with minimum 45% marks. No age limit.

5. For MTech programs candidates should have passed Btech/BSc degree in a relevant specialization in 55% marks. No age limit.  

6. Candidates who want to apply for MVSc and MFSc programs for their masters must have passed the BVSc & AH degree and BFSc with 55% aggregate marks. No age limit.

The Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), which was established in 2004, also runs undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programs in disciplines like veterinary science, animal husbandry, dairy technology and fisheries science. 

These are the undergraduate programs available namely: BVSc & AH, BTech Agric (Dairy Technology), BFSc, and BSc (Hons) Animal Nutrition & Feed Technology. The duration it takes to complete the course is between four to five years. Some of the common postgraduate courses include MVSc, MTech, MFSc, and MSc and which take between two and three years. Applicant must at least possess a relevant bachelor’s degree for them to be considered for postgraduation. 

The university utilizes three constituent colleges as well as 30 affiliated colleges.
