Kuvempu University is a state university to the memory of the Kannada writer Kuvempu which is located at Shimoga of Karnataka. It was founded in 1987 and it is approved by UGC and accredited by NAAC with B++ grade. In the NIRF India Rankings 2023 under University category, Kuvempu University has come out in 92nd rank. It is a large institution located on a 230-acre land and has enrolled over 1,00,000 students in its 120 affiliated colleges, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs.
The University provides more than hundred courses in different fields of study such as arts, science, commerce, business administration, computer science, law, education and social work at the undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated and diploma levels. Some of the recognized courses offered in Universities are B.Sc, B.A, B.ED, B.B.A, M.A, M.Sc, M.com, M.C.A and M.B.A. Some of the tests that are conducted are by the university and some of the programs mandate that the students have taken the Karnataka CET. An example of the exam dates in 2024 is from April for even semester examinations and from November for odd semester examinations. The application forms for admission for students who wish to join in the schools starting 2024 should be available by December 2023 on the official site.
The university’s placement and career guidance cell is quite effective that has helped the companies including Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Deloitte, KPMG and L&T to recruit Kuvempu graduates. The training & placement cell of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani successfully placed all its students for 2022 batch with highest salary package of 12 LPA and average salary of 4 to 5 LPA. The batch as a whole could obtain employments in companies during campus placements based on sectors including IT, banking, financial services, education, manufacturing and marketing and so on, where about 70 percent of the students were placed. The university also aims at producing students that will sit for competitive exams such as the UPSC and KPSC since many of the university’s graduates have landed on these examinations in the past years.
