It is an esteemed university that was initially known as Kavaratri Seva Maha Vidyalaya situated in New Delhi, India which is dedicated to Sanskrit and Indic studies. Founded in 1962, SLBSRSV provides graduate, postgraduate and research programs in the study of Shastras, Vedas, Sanskrit literature, philosophy and other related subjects. It is a UGC (University Grants Commission) recognized institution and has been graded ‘A’ by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). In NIRF ranking system of the year 2023, the SLBSRSV has ranked 65th position among all universities of India.
The university teaches several undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programs spread across faculties of Sahitya, Vyakarana, Darshana, Vedanta, Nyaya, Advaita Vedanta and others. Some of the important programs are BA (Hons) in Sanskrit, MA in Sanskrit, MPhil and PhD in specialized sanskrit shastras. Bachelor’s program enrollment is given on the basis of class 12 board scores. For the postgraduate courses, SLBSRSV holds a common entrance test known as Common Sanskrit Entrance Test (CSET) at national level. The following CSET examination dates are 15th- 20th June, 2024. It is to be noted that the applications for these scholarships are available from March 2024 at the given university website. It means that the admission process includes the qualifying examination, the application for the admission in the given course, and the counselling.
SLBSRSV has a functional and effective placement cell that offers employment opportunity in areas such as teaching, research, content development and translation and public service sector. Employment opportunities are also available for SLBSRSV students through recruitment from various organizations such as universities, language technology companies like CDAC Microsoft Google and public sector banks among others. Salary packages which are offered to the students are average from 3-6 lakhs per annum. The department achieved placement of over 75 students to reputed organizations in the year 2022. The maximum salary package of the placement session reached up to 16 lakhs per annum which was offered to the Sanskrit computational linguistics graduate for joining Microsoft. 1. Acharya in Veda: Minimum educational qualification: The candidate should have completed Bachelor degree in Veda from any recognized university and obtained 50% marks. It should have offered Sanskrit as one of its subjects in the Bachelor’s level of study.
2. Acharya in Vyakarana: Candidate must have passed the Bachelor degree with Sanskrit as one of their subjects with minimum 50% marks. They should have taken Vyakarana as one of the special subjects in Bachelor’s degree level.
3. Acharya in Sahitya: It should also note that the candidate must have passed the Bachelor degree with Sanskrit as one of the subjects with minimum 50% marks. Should have offered Sahitya as an optional or as a special subject in the Bachelor’s level.
4. Master's in Library Science: Candidates must have passed Bachelor of Sanskrit or equivalent degree with at least 50% marks. Should have taken library science as one of the subjects in ones’ Bachelor’s degree level.
5. Ph.D: Candidates who have completed their Master of Arts in the subjects of Veda/Vyakarana/Sahitya etc.,with not less than 55% of marks. Forces should qualify entrance exam conducted by the university.
6. Diploma Courses: The candidate can pass in 10+2 examination in any stream with minimum 50% aggregate marks. Knowledge of Sanskrit language is desirable and at least some background information is needed.

This university has reasonable placements and major companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro recruit students directly from the campus. It is observed that about sixty percent of the total of 120 students who appear for placements get placed every year. The maximum salary that a student can get is around Rs. 5 lakhs per annum and the median salary offered is around Rs 3.2 lakhs per annum. Some of the key recruiters are TCS, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and many more who recruit for IT roles, and banks like ICICI for banking roles.
