Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) is one of the state universities for open learning system in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This university was started in the year 2002 by Tamil Nadu Government under Tamil Nadu Open University Act of the year 2002. TNOU has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and it has been accredited with B++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). According to NIRF Rankings 2023 of India, the TNOU is ranked 91 among the university level institutions.
TNOU provides Undergraduate, postgraduate, Diploma, Certification programmes in Arts, Science, Education, Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences and others through open and distance mode of education. Tamil Nadu Open University Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)
1. Limitation of partaking is usually pegged on age and should not be below the age of 18 years. There is no restriction to the admission age, in that, people of any age can be admitted in to the college.
2. candidate who have passed 10+2 can apply for the undergraduate degree course. Higher secondary certificate needed.
3. Those students who have completed their previous degree from any recognized university and who are qualify for postgraduate degree courses. Relevant bachelor's degree required.
4. Lateral entry is available for diploma holders where they can get admission directly into second year of under graduate programmes.
5. The international students would be required to produce their TOEFL/IELTS scores in English Language Proficiency tests.

Tamil Nadu Open University Placements 2024
TNOU has a separate placement cell that helps the regular recruitment of students by the corporate organizations for their courses. Some of the companies where students have been placed after completion of their program are Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, HCL technologies, Tech Mahindra. The salary scale provided at TNOU has been the highest of Rs. 4.5 lakhs per annum while for the average students, a salary of Rs. 2.5-3 lakhs per annum has been offered. The university boasts relatively high placement ratio which are at an average of 60-70% for computer science and IT programmes; the other programmes’ placement ratio is comparatively low at an average of 40-50%. The placement cell is responsible for organizing pre-placement talks training and workshops for the students before placements and necessary support.
